Family Advocate

JOB TITLE: Family Advocate - $17.75 hourly HS/GED, $18.53 hourly AA/CDA, $19.05 BA or higher

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:  Parent Family & Community Engagement Coordinator

GENERAL SUMMARY:

This position supports and assists families as they identify and meet their own goals through a family-centered case management model for developing and carrying out the program Family Partnership Agreements including responsibility for child files, enrollment/applications, etc.  This position also assists with the completion of the child health requirements and other required screenings and assessments.  This position supports the larger system of social services coordinated by Head Start/Early Head Start, thereby supporting the goals of the program. The position may involve reassignment of caseloads and/or center location as deemed necessary for program operations. 

PRIMARY REPONSIBILTIES:

a. Program Development and Planning

1) Coordinates with center staff to integrate family partnership goals with classroom efforts      and to ensure integrated child and family curriculum.

2) Participate in team management functions of planning, implementing and evaluating     Family and Community Partnership goals and objectives.

b. Program Implementation

1) Recruits prospective families and assist with enrollment process.

2) Conducts home visits to facilitate family plans, assists families in achieving identified goals and follow-up on referrals. Acts as a case manager and works cooperatively with local agencies to assist families to linkup with services in the local community.

d. Implementation - Health Services

1) Responsible for the following:

     a) Assists to develop a system for administering and monitoring the Head Start Program          Performance Standards in the applicable content areas of health services.

     b) Follows policies and procedures for the health portion of the program with parents and          staff that support the effective implementation of comprehensive health services.

 

 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum requirement is, within eighteen months of hire, you obtain a credential or certification in social work, human services, family services, counseling or a related field.

If applicable federal, state or local Head Start or child care regulations, now or as amended in the future, contain additional requirements or qualifications for this position which are not specifically stated in this Job Description, the requirements and qualifications will apply, even if not specifically set forth in this Job Description.

Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish or English and other languages present in the local area).  Acceptable tuberculosis screening results, a clear criminal records check (including child abuse registry check if required by state regulations) and an initial health exam are required post job offer and prior to employment.  To drive agency vehicles (if applicable), must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the CDI Head Start insurance carrier and have a Motor Vehicle Record acceptable to CDI Head Start. Current and former Head Start/Early Head Start parents will receive preference for employment vacancies for which they are qualified.

Must have reliable transportation and if/when using own vehicle must have minimum automobile coverage required by state of employment.
